TİDER: The Name for Combating Waste and Poverty!

Founded in 2010 The Basic Needs Association (TİDER) has been working for 13 years in the field of combating waste and poverty, carrying out activities to ensure that people have fair and equal access to their basic needs. Aiming to open a food bank in every district of Turkey and to ensure that the system operates with impartial, transparent, honest, and sustainable principles, TİDER is expanding its food banking network while simultaneously aiming to become the world's largest food banking network. The Global Food Banking Network (GFN) As a member, it represents our country on international platforms. As of today, it operates in 35 provinces across 7 regions of Türkiye, through 65 food banks, to help more than 900,000 people in need access their basic necessities.

Food Banking: Preventing Waste

A food bank is a non-profit charitable organization that collects surplus, unsaleable, and otherwise donated and/or purchased food, cleaning products, clothing, and fuel, and distributes these items to low-income individuals/families and/or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that will provide the products to those in need. Food banking is not a solution to poverty in a community or country, but it is a significant contribution to the solution. It represents a serious collaboration between key representatives from three different sectors of society: the public sector (government – ​​at all levels), the private sector (business – including the food industry and media), and the voluntary sector (the NGO community), all aimed at meeting the needs of disadvantaged individuals.

The Way to Reduce Waste: Donations

Supporting the food banking system with product donations helps reduce waste while also reducing poverty and hunger. As the quantity and variety of products donated to TİDER increase, the system can operate solely on operating costs, thus reducing the cost of a single meal for one person to as low as 50 kuruş.
